Garages
Section R309
- Garages shall not open into sleeping rooms.
- Doors opening into garages from the dwelling unit shall be
solid core 1 3/8- inches-thick wooden doors, solid or honeycomb
steel doors, or 20 minute fire-rated doors.
- The garage shall be separated from the dwelling unit by not
< 1/2-inch gypsum wallboard applied to the garage side. Vertical
supports of floor/ceiling separations shall also be protected
by < 1/2-inch gypsum wallboard.
- Ducts penetrating walls between the garage and dwelling unit
shall be a minimum 26 gage steel without openings into the garage.
- Floors shall be of noncombustible material sloped for drainage
to an approved drain or to the main vehicle entry door.
